On the so-called “peace plan” proposed by the U.S. Administration for ending the Russia–Ukraine war
The Presidium of the Government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria expresses its deep concern and astonishment regarding the presentation by the United States Administration of a so-called “peace plan,” which, according to its initiators, is intended to end the Russia–Ukraine war with security guarantees for Ukraine.
Implementation of this plan may amount to unjust pressure on the Ukrainian side, as virtually all of its demands were illegally advanced by the Russian leadership on the eve of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Accepting these demands after nearly four years of heroic resistance by the Ukrainian people would mean capitulation and recognition of the aggressor’s supposed right to impose its will by force.
The plan contradicts the 1975 Helsinki Accords, as well as the resolutions of the UN General Assembly, the Council of Europe, and the European Parliament calling for the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Ignoring these documents may create a dangerous precedent and open the door to new armed conflicts.
In essence, the plan proposes ending the confrontation between the world’s democracies and the Russian empire on terms that grant victory to Russia.
For the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, whose territory is illegally occupied by Russia, implementation of this plan is unacceptable, as it may legitimize Russia’s claim to our state’s territory and obstruct the just struggle of the Chechen people for the de-occupation of their country.
Legitimizing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine would also mean legitimizing Russia’s policy of suppressing and subjugating nations that resist Moscow’s imperial expansion. This would deprive struggling nations of guarantees of freedom under modern international law.
If Russia receives diplomatic rewards for its aggression, its authorities may continue expansionist policies, creating security threats in Europe and beyond.
The Presidium of the Government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria hopes that the authorities of the United States, represented by President Donald Trump, and the authorities of Ukraine, represented by President Volodymyr Zelensky, will not allow decisions regarding the peace plan to be made outside the framework of existing international law.
We call for resolving the issue in a way that does not grant advantages to the aggressor and does not humiliate the victim.
The Presidium of the Government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria considers this peace plan unacceptable for Ukraine, for European and international security, and for the future of democratic states.
